We are currently seeking a

Small Business Underwriter

to join our organization. As a Small Business Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting, decisioning, and structuring conventional and Small Business Administration small business loan requests within defined policy limits. You will ensure SBA standard operation procedures, program eligibility and documentation takes place while applying approved underwriting templates and scoring models to recommend terms and mitigations that balance experience and risk. Additionally, you'll drive high quality credit memos and clear approval packages while identifying and documenting policy exceptions with appropriate mitigation. Lastly, you will partner with the AVP, Relationship Managers, and Loan Administration to meet closing timelines.

What You'll Do:

Underwrite conventional and SBA small business requests within established policy limits using approved templates and scoring models.

Analyze financial statements and tax returns to develop global cash flow and key ratios, evaluate collateral and guarantor support, and recommend approval, decline, or counter terms consistent with risk appetite of the Credit Union.

Apply Small Business policy metrics for System Decisioned, Application Plus, and Judgmental Financial Underwriting.

Identify deviations, and document tracked policy exceptions with mitigation and expedite per approval authority matrix while maintaining required tracking.

Ensure each loan request is properly structured for purpose, repayment source, collateral, and guarantor support.

Confirm SBA program eligibility for 7(a) and 504 when applicable.

Coordinate SBA checklists with Relationship Managers through loan origination system (LOS) to ensure documentation requirements are met and identify items that must be satisfied prior to approval or closing.

What You'll Need:

Three to five years of similar or related experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field

Key Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of analyzing tax returns and financial statements to assess cash flow, leverage, liquidity, and debt service coverage.

Knowledgeable in SBA 7(a) and 504 eligibility and documentation.

Advanced Excel skills with experience in loan origination and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.

Must be able to handle multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, deal with sensitive information and handle problem resolution.

Effectively communicate with internal and external customers appropriately via in person, email etc.
