
Substation Project Engineer

Substation Project Engineer – Sacramento, Oakland, or Fresno
Responsibilities
Develop and review detailed engineering designs for medium to high‑voltage substations
Prepare and approve drawings, specifications, equipment layouts, single‑line diagrams, and protection/control schematics
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements (e.g., NESC, IEEE, NEC, NERC)
Oversee all engineering activities for substation projects from initiation to energization
Manage project schedules, budgets, engineering deliverables, and risk assessments
Coordinate design reviews, QA/QC checks, and interdisciplinary collaboration (civil, structural, protection, SCADA)
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and utility representatives
Facilitate project meetings, progress reporting, and design clarification sessions
Ensure smooth communication across all engineering and construction disciplines
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
3–7+ years of experience in power delivery or high‑voltage substation design
Strong understanding of protection & control systems, substation physical design, and equipment specifications
Experience with power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, ASPEN)
Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other design tools
Experience working with utilities, EPC firms, or large infrastructure projects
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and industry standards
Strong organizational, communication, and project‑coordination skills
Preferred: PE License
Pay Range
$105,000‑115,000 per year
