About the Role
This is a fixed term (one year) full time position at 86 hours per fortnight plus oncall, within the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes.
You will be responsible for running up to 4 outpatient clinics a week as well as the occasional outreach clinic which might involve an overnight stay. You’ll support our other full time fellow with ward work, particularly in busy times or when they’re on leave, and you’ll provide support and leadership for our senior resident. This is a busy and challenging role with lots of training and support.
You will also be encouraged to consider novel research ideas within the department and to prepare for future research projects in the year(s) following this role.
Classification for this position will range from HM25-HM30 depending on your experience.
What you’ll achieve:
Provide first-class inpatient and outpatient medical care for children and families affected by paediatric endocrine disorders
Supervise the junior medical staff rotating through the unit
Liaise with internal and external services and specialties
Your skills and experience
Medical degree/qualification from recognised university
Completed basic training (RACP) or its equivalent in paediatrics
Demonstrate high level of academic achievement in medicine and paediatrics
Experience in paediatric endocrinology is preferable
Very high level of recommendation by former senior colleagues / mentors
About the Department
The clinical service is both inpatient and outpatient based, including outreach clinics across Victoria and southern NSW. The diabetes service component manages approximately 1500 children and adolescents with diabetes, while the general endocrine component covers approximately 4000 outpatient visits per year, as well as around 400 inpatient admissions and cross‑specialty consultations per year. Departmental staff numbers approximate 35 in total, including medical, allied health and administrative staff.

It is a requirement of your employment that you be vaccinated against Influenza annually for Category A and B roles, in compliance with any public health orders in place at the relevant time, unless you have a medical exception in line with those public health orders, which has been accepted by The Royal Children’s Hospital. Applicants will be required to provide their Australian Government Immunisation History Statement, it is a requirement of the RCH to collect, record and hold vaccination information.
