Job Summary
Serve as a Production Manager for Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, and as an Instructor in the Department of Theatre Stage Management Program. Under the supervision of the KCPA Director of Production support effective management of 15+ live performance productions for the academic performing arts units of the college of Fine and Applied Arts.
Duties & Responsibilities
Academic Instruction
Holds a 0% teaching appointment in Department of Theatre as a Teaching Assistant Professor, with input and execution of Stage Management Curriculum
Teaches up to six classroom hours per semester for various courses
Serves as a guest instructor and oversees independent studies
Serves as student stage management advisor for assigned productions
Participates in other duties related to the educational mission of Krannert Center and the Department of Theatre as available, including faculty meetings and serving on committees
Participates in curriculum planning, course development, recruiting and retention activities of the program
Organizes and supervises students and their work on various productions, including overseeing technical and dress rehearsals in dance, lyric theatre and theatre; advises production students on numerous matters including career opportunities and related issues
Management
The Production Manager works with the Director of Production to coordinate effective management of 13 mainstage productions and numerous workshop productions supporting the performing arts units resident in Krannert Center
Coordinates the needs of the academic units with the available resources of Krannert Center’s production departments in order to carry out the educational, research, and public engagement missions of the academic departments and KCPA; responsibilities include advance planning for future seasons, assisting with creation of specific and comprehensive production calendars, overseeing budgets, scheduling meetings, supervision of student graduate assistants, and facilitation of many aspects of the day-to-day operations of the resident producer production office
In consultation with the Director of Production, oversees production requirements for each student show in process, either through advance planning, the running of production meetings, the oversight of rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances, and other production duties as related to production management
Coordinates space requests, interacts with professional and academic staff to solve logistical problems, and acts the representative of the Director of Production in departmental and college meetings
Academic Production
Oversight of production requirements for each student show in process, through advance planning, running of production meetings, oversight of rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances
Minimum Qualifications
BFA in stage management, production management, design and/or technical theater or other closely related performing arts discipline
2 years professional experience in live performing arts (theater, opera, dance, musical theater, immersive theater) in management roles like production manager/director, production stage manager, stage manager, assistant production manager, assistant stage manager, and/or production assistant
MFA in stage management or production management
Preferred Qualifications
MFA in stage and/or production management
1-3+ years college-level teaching and/or mentoring experience in stage or production management
Experience with union contracts (AEA, IATSE) and theatrical health and safety practices
Familiarity with venue management software/systems (like Momentus, Propared, Prospero, etc.)
AEA member, AGMA member, IATSE member, OSHA-10 hour and/or OSHA 30-hour certificate, 1st Aid/CPR Certified
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ability to communicate with and effectively organize the work of students
Must be flexible, resilient, and possess the ability to operate with minimal guidance
Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team environment
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/1/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $57,000-$62,000 annually. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
