Overview
Operations Engineer II – GAC Savannah

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports the world’s most technologically‑advanced business jet aircraft.

Responsibilities

For the manufacturing process to which the individual is assigned: provide and maintain detailed work instructions, drive quality and efficiency improvements, manage daily work plans, provide metrics for quality and schedule performance, and coordinate engineering and tooling changes to meet operations goals.

Perform RCCA analysis on quality defects and ensure tasks are performed a first time with no rejections.

Conduct technical studies of a complex nature, analyze existing or proposed operations, and define equipment/tooling needs to optimize the production process.

Generate make‑or‑buy proposals, recommend corrective actions, evaluate vendors, attend vendor negotiations, and assist in resolving vendor problems.

Conduct research, investigation, and analysis for planning or other projects to ensure conformance to requirements.

Investigate and prepare justification for equipment and facility improvements.

Perform producibility studies from engineering drawings to identify opportunities to enhance manufacturing ability, and participate in Design for Manufacturing assessments with Engineering.

Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements, generate required data or reports, and keep current on state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing developments.

Incorporate Lean Manufacturing Methodology into existing and future processes.

Develop business cases and present to management for process improvement approval.

Provide training to Operations Engineering staff as required in work methods, procedures, and efficient use of company resources.

Lead and coordinate implementation of projects across multiple organizations.

Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to manufacturing methods as a team member or leader.

Support safety, sustainability, and ergonomic initiatives; aid in development and maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan.

Ensure quality policies are practiced and recommend procedure improvements.

Maintain accurate daily/weekly activity status based on work output.

Act as an Operations Manager substitute when required.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related curriculum, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions.

18 months of manufacturing engineering, planning, or related technical experience.

Knowledgeable about engineering configuration requirements, tooling, quality control, plant safety, blueprint reading, and shop math.

Additional Requirements

Proven knowledge and understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles and processes.

Ability to influence across functional disciplines.

Demonstrated ability to operate computerized equipment, such as personal computers and CATIA.

Lean Specialist certification or higher preferred.
