Job Overview
Title:

TEAP Specialist / Counselor (Part Time, 20 hrs/week)
Location:

Phoenix Job Corps Center, 518 S 3rd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Responsibility Overview

Provide TEAP (Transtheoretical Model of Addiction Prevention) services to the approximately 319 students at the center.

Conduct substance‑use assessments, screenings, and individualized counseling for students, using standardized tools such as SASSI, DAST‑20, MAST, and GAIN.

Deliver prevention education, including at least a 1‑hour presentation on substance‑use prevention for all new students during the Career Preparation Period.

Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on employability barriers and relapse prevention.

Coordinate with the Center Mental Health Consultant, health‑services staff, and other agencies to ensure integrated care for students with co‑occurring mental health and substance‑use conditions.

Maintain confidential individual‑health‑record data in compliance with federal, state, and Job Corps regulations.

Participate in case‑management planning, including crisis assessment and appropriate referrals to off‑center treatment or psychiatric services.

Collaborate with other center departments (Residence Life, Recreational Services, Student Government, HEALS) to integrate substance‑use prevention and education into broader student programming.

Prepare and maintain documentation of testing procedures and TEAP services in the Student Health Record, following chain‑of‑custody principles.

Provide 24‑hour on‑call coverage as needed, ensuring timely communication and escalation to a registered nurse or physician.

Lead weekly case‑conference meetings to discuss student progress, barriers, and intervention strategies.

Qualifications

Active license as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Arizona (e.g., CAADAC, CADC, CADAAC, CADAC).

Minimum one year of post‑graduate, non‑internship experience in a similar setting with a licensed counselor.

At least one year of experience working with youth or adolescents.

Knowledge of federal Job Corps regulations (Title 20, Part 626, 636, 638, 684, etc.) and the Employment Readiness Program handbook.

Excellent communication skills in written and verbal formats.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑based environment.

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Benefits & Expectations

Commit to 40 hours of TEAP service delivery per week, distributed as 16 hours of scheduled sessions and 24 hours of on‑call coverage.

Participate in ongoing professional development, including mandated trainings and conference attendance.

Work with the Center Director and Wellness Manager to schedule shifts and coordinate staffing.
