Job Description
Teach the following Vocational Technical Education Framework Strands:

Strand One: Safety and Health Knowledge

Strand Two: Technical Standards Knowledge and Skills

Strand Three: Embedded Academics

Strand Four: Employability

Strand Five: Management and Entrepreneurship

Strand Six: Technology

JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.

Responsibilities:

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.

Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Guides the learning process toward achievement of established district curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to students for lessons, units and projects.

Prepares for classes assigned, and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of student groups.

Strives by instruction and action to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives and performance expectations.

Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis; provides progress reports as required, and communicates with parents as needed.

Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

Diagnoses the learning challenges of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance from district specialists as required.

Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Follows the SPS code of conduct for the classroom, consistent with established policies, and develops rules of behavior enforced fairly.

Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals, and makes written evaluations as required.

Maintains an ongoing professional growth program meeting district and personal expectations.

Takes an active part in the contractually-approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning results.

Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and decision making; meetings held during the extended day.

Attends traditional school-sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House, programs, activities) per building administrator and contract.

Contributes to district and building decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and well-being.

Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Five years of recent full-time employment experience directly related to trade shop and state trade/union license.

Passing score of at least 70% on the written and performance tests for licensure.

Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (Medical Assisting 9-12), to be completed as soon as possible from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Salary
Salary:

$54,541 to $88,258 – BU Salary Schedule
