Feed Mill Manager in Training / Quality Assurance
Summary/Objective: This is a two-year trainee position, which reports to the Director of Feed Mill Quality Assurance, and will focus on developing the individual to be placed in a Feed Mill management, quality assurance verification, as well as maintenance of established Pilgrim’s programs including the Animal Food Safety Program, USDA and 3rd party certification and regulatory programs. The Feed Mill Manager Trainee also supports the Technical Services Division with additional activities as deemed necessary. Travel is a requirement of this position.
It will be structured as follows:
First 6‑8 months working directly with the Director of Feed Mill Quality Assurance, including traveling to complexes, attending required meetings, and completing required trainings as directed.
Second 6‑8 months working as guided by the Director, with approximately half the candidate’s time spent directly with his/her supervisor.
8‑12 months working and traveling independently, but under the Director’s guidance, focusing on improving milling efficiency and quality assurance processes.
Essential Functions
Animal Food Safety
Learn to manage the facility’s Animal Food Safety Plan ensuring regulatory requirements are achieved. The trainee will assist the mill managers in education, implementation and program compliance, record keeping and internal audits of processes and procedures at specified intervals.
Learn Pilgrim’s standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation based on the prescribed requirements of the Animal Food Safety Plan, Quality Assurance Manual and utilizing 6S principles.
Conduct routine on‑site audits of each feed manufacturing facility to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, customer‑required certifications and company‑prescribed standards.
Regulatory Compliance
Learn all State and Federal regulatory requirements that are pertinent to feed manufacturing.
Learn to manage and execute policies related to FDA, USDA, EPA, OSHA and other agency regulations.
Technical Learning
Learn technical skills in feed manufacturing and automation processes that will prepare the individual for a management role.
Learn to manage and execute Pilgrim’s Quality Assurance Programs.
Learn to proficiently navigate and troubleshoot Mtech, SAP and Beta Raven systems.
Learn to manage raw material and finished feed inventories to ensure efficient and accurate milling practices.
Work with other mill managers to learn and become proficient in budget management methods.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full‑time position, and hours of work and days are determined by the needs of the facilities. The job will require travel up to 30 weeks per year and visits to feed mills, hatcheries, grow‑out and processing facilities.
Required Education and Experience
Work‑related experience in Feed Milling, Quality Assurance, Food Safety, FDA and USDA regulation is preferred.
Work‑related experience in Quality Assurance methods and 3rd party certification programs is required.
A degree in Poultry Science, Feed Science or a food‑safety related field is preferred.
