Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Serving as a member of the medical care management team, the Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care across the continuum of acute care services to patients who are in house on the Urology service. Act as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, and physicians to provide effective and consistent patient care. Coordinate patient admissions. Perform daily rounds on all Urology inpatients, chart orders, coordinate consultants. Perform and document comprehensive history and physical examinations on all inpatients. Accurately interprets all diagnostic data and formulates a plan of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team. Provide appropriate pharmacological management independent follow-up care, assessment and problem solving. Provide patient education for disease process, pre/post operative procedures and outcomes. Dictate consultation notes, discharge summaries, and letters re patient care. Screen telephone calls from patients and families regarding care. Participate in lectures, neurosurgical rounds, conferences and workshops. Assist with the development of research protocols, investigations, and clinical trials as requested. Provide administrative support for physicians: assist with development of critical care pathways and protocols. Development and implementation of progressive information technology alternatives in the inpatient setting.
Job Qualifications
MSN or DNP with Adult/Gero Acute Care NP specialty- required
CA RN and NP certification, State of CA NP Furnishing with Schedule II- required
National NP Board certification in Adult-Gero Acute Care/Adult Acute Care NP specialty - required
NPI#, DEA#, Enrollment in PECOS, Enrollment on CURES- required
Previous Urology experience - preferred
BLS from AHA or ARC- required
Ability to utilize excel, word and other software programs
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with administrative, clinical and academic personnel
Skill in working independently and following through with minimum direction
Ability to set priorities
Demonstrate writing skills to compose logical, detailed and grammatically correct correspondence
Document patient care in a concise and comprehensive manner
