Summary
Pre-Operative Surgical Coordinator will coordinate with patients and the Ambulatory Surgery Center to ensure all pre‑operative labs, medical clearances, and pre‑operative instructions are provided in advance of the surgery date. Responsibilities include completing pre‑operative calls, handling clinical and surgical disability correspondence, assisting patients with balances and payments, and co‑management duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Review patient records prior to surgery to ensure all pre‑operative medical clearance is obtained, including labs, history and physical, etc.
Answer and originate many patient calls to address questions about surgical procedures, payments due, and provide detailed pre‑operative instructions.
Assist patient with completing all disability paperwork.
Use medical office software to schedule new and follow‑up appointments for patients as needed.
Update patient demographics and insurance coverage records as necessary.
Understand patient out‑of‑pocket fees, eligibility, and authorizations.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient records.
Verify, update, and enter insurance information into the electronic practice management system (EPM) including policy information, benefit coverage, and referrals, as needed.
Identify potential co‑management accounts and communicate this information to patients and medical offices.
Respond to voicemail and email inquiries promptly.
Provide feedback to scheduling staff or appropriate business office staff regarding waivers or special instructions that may be needed.
This is an in‑office position; remote work is not available.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of medical terms, conditions, and surgical flow.
General knowledge of pharmaceutical terms and medications.
Professional verbal communication skills with high levels of patient service.
Organized and able to move between multiple tasks while maintaining progress and attention to detail.
Strong organizational and multi‑tasking abilities.
Basic knowledge of insurance processes and procedures.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma required.
LVN license preferred.
Experience in a medical or healthcare office required; experience in ophthalmology or optometry preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Licensed Vocational Nurse license is preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
