Advanced Veterinary Specialists (AVS) is a leading specialty and emergency veterinary hospital in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA. Our multidisciplinary team provides advanced patient care across Internal Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Oncology, and Emergency & Critical Care.
We are currently seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Internal Medicine team, working alongside board‑certified veterinary internists to support patients with complex and challenging medical conditions.
About the Role
As an Internal Medicine RVT, you will play a critical role in delivering compassionate, detail‑oriented care to patients requiring advanced diagnostics and treatment. This is an excellent opportunity for an RVT who enjoys hospitalized patient care, diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, and client communication in a specialty setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide compassionate care and continuous monitoring for hospitalized Internal Medicine patients
Assist with advanced diagnostic procedures, including imaging preparation and sample collection
Support veterinarians during procedures such as biopsies and aspiration cytology
Monitor anesthesia and patient recovery
Communicate clearly and professionally with pet owners regarding diagnostics and treatment plans
Maintain accurate and thorough medical records
Ensure medical equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and sterilized
Collaborate with Internal Medicine, Emergency, and Specialty teams to deliver comprehensive care
Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and well‑being
Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
4/10 work week
Weekend and holiday availability required
Required Qualifications
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license – State of California (required)
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience with small animal restraint (cats and dogs)
Working knowledge of veterinary medical terminology
Calm, professional, and compassionate demeanor
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent time management, multitasking, and problem‑solving abilities
Ability to follow hospital SOPs and work both independently and as part of a team
