Job Summary
WBKO News is searching for a digital content manager/assignment editor. The ideal candidate is a news leader and innovator who wants to grow the audience as well as lead and direct the creation of local news content across newscasts, digital, mobile app, streaming, and social media platforms.
Responsibilities
Manage the digital content team and lead digital strategy to grow digital, social media, and streaming audiences and engagement.
Monitor news sources to ensure news is being appropriately covered.
Plan and execute multiplatform news coverage.
Assist with the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage on-air and on the station’s digital/streaming platforms.
Lead our team to develop workflows that deliver our content 24/7 with storytelling that is optimized for each screen.
Champion the creation of vertical videos as a reporting tool.
Analyze and actively use data and metrics to inform editorial and strategic decisions.
Actively partner with the News Director and other station leaders to lead a cross-platform strategy.
Oversee all station social media, including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and other emerging platforms.
Lead the content team in identifying new content types and technology to help serve new audiences.
Create unique, engaging, and shareable local content.
Teach, coach, and mentor our content team in best practices for journalism ethics, writing, and SEO.
Hold newsroom employees and newsroom content accountable to established ethical and editorial standards.
Lead the digital response during breaking news, ensuring immediate and accurate online updates, push alerts, live streams, and social media updates in coordination with the newsroom.
Ensure all content follows WBKO News’ brand and is consistent in style, quality, and tone.
Help manage content calendars and ensure timely delivery of all content, especially during breaking news and weather.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience.
Proven track record of digital news experience or equivalent experience.
Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair, and unique local content.
Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations.
An eye for detail, strong journalism writing skills, and AP style proficiency.
Experience analyzing data and identifying behavioral trends.
Must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to be flexible with the schedule when needed.
Ability to be part of a weekend on-call manager rotation.
Must be a team player, highly organized, and comfortable multi-tasking and prioritizing.
