Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) – Full-time Evening Shift
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, Emergency Medical Technicians – Paramedics possess extensive knowledge, skills, training, and experience in managing patients in the out‑of‑hospital setting. They are experts in stabilizing and transporting patients between medical facilities by ground or air.
Responsibilities
Patient assessment and stabilization including peripheral and central IV insertion, specimen collection, and the use of pneumatic shock garments.
Administration of medications; endotracheal intubations (rapid sequence intubation); oxygen and medical gases via appropriate devices including transport ventilators.
EKG monitoring, 12‑lead acquisition, defibrillation, cardioversion, spinal immobilization, chest decompression, cricothyroidotomy, trans‑tracheal insufflation, and invasive vital‑sign monitoring.
Operate advanced life‑support radio and provide pertinent information to out‑of‑hospital medical providers.
Maintain computer database on ambulance calls and assist in analyzing all aspects of out‑of‑hospital care.
Maintain equipment and medical supplies; operate the ambulance and coordinate transportation.
Provide direct patient care aboard the Suffolk County Police Medevac Helicopter.
Precept students in the clinical setting and orient new students.
Provide administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator.
May supervise Emergency Medical Technicians.
Qualifications
Required:
New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician‑Paramedic and the appropriate New York State driver’s license for the vehicle to be operated.
Preferred:
One or more of the following certifications: BCS, BCL, BTLS, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NALS, National Registry.
Benefits and Compensation
Anticipated pay range:
$53,764 per year . Supplemental pay may include location pay ($4,000), inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential ($575), and geographic pay ($23,000). The position also offers generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
