Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose

Responsible for providing a variety of routine and/or complex tests and procedures on tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for histological examination that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. This role has specialized expertise in technical processes and procedures and proposes improvements to these processes. The position provides subject matter guidance to less experienced employees and may act as a lead.

Responsibilities

May assist supervisor in maintaining quality plan, procedure manual, variance management, interdepartmental functionality, and writing policies/procedures. Actively participates in process improvement initiatives. Performs competency assessments and provides training of complex procedures and processes. Acts as a lead to provide subject matter expertise as needed.

May be trained to perform tissue gross examination as needed. (Must meet the High Complexity qualifications as written in CLIA 42CFR493). Performs validation of new histochemical and immunohistochemical stains.

Processing, microtomy and staining of non‑decalcified bone for metabolic bone disease. Processing, microtomy and staining of ophthalmic specimens and whole orbit pathology. Advanced technical and critical thinking skills to embed, cut and stain tissue from a variety of body sites. Advanced knowledge of neuropathology, pediatrics and sub‑specialized anatomic pathology.

Tasks to include, but not limited to light, frozen, and fluorescent microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation. Performs immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent staining. Performs and documents quality controls. Selects tissue for control library and maintains control library inventory.

Provides slides, tissue sections and ribbons for a variety of research and clinical trial protocols. Prepare slides for whole slide digital imaging during frozen section procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

Supervisor Experience: No Experience

Licenses & Certifications: HTL‑ASCP or equivalent

Preferred Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Life Science/related field

Experience: 2–5 years
