Job Detail
Type:

Full‑time (40 hrs/wk) 6 days a week (5 regular working days and one on‑call day). Subject to on‑call (24/6), overtime, alternate shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift assignments are governed by union agreement, typically based on seniority.

Travel:

50% to 80%. Travel to and remain at job sites for extended periods, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, in the designated seniority region.

Training:

Company‑paid on‑the‑job and classroom training, including travel to the BNSF Training Center.

Key Responsibilities

Installing, testing, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting communications equipment, both inside and outside, including assembling and/or dismantling equipment, parts, and related items.

Installing, testing, and maintaining fiber optics, cables, towers, antennas, power plants, and microwave/radio sites; terminating overhead/underground cabling; performing tower erection, rigging, installation, and maintenance, including climbing towers.

Operating trucks and various equipment (tractors, trenchers, and digging machines) to support Telecom work.

Performing work in a safety‑sensitive environment, where conditions can include diverse and extreme weather (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet), uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Adhering to safety rules, policies, and federal and state regulations, wearing personal protective equipment, responding to concerns, and taking appropriate action in emergencies.

Relocation assistance is not available and there is a 120‑day probationary period plus 120 days to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.

Basic Qualifications

Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization.

21 years of age or older.

High school diploma or GED.

Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.

Ability to work safely under the above conditions.

Ability to work the above shift/hours.

Ability to meet the above travel requirements.

Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 240 days of employment.

Ability to visually distinguish among red, blue, green, and yellow colors.

Ability to differentiate between verbal and non‑verbal signals and comprehend verbal communication in the work environment.

Ability to use hands and hand tools for activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.

Ability to work on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and operate on/off equipment.

Ability to work from a boom truck basket.

Ability to bend, walk, stand, and sit occasionally with breaks.

Follow safety policies and procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.

Ability to climb and perform work on tower structures above 50 feet.

3 years minimum of verifiable experience coordinating information from several sources to assign work assignments and coordinate schedules.

1 year minimum of verifiable experience conducting analysis of computer‑generated reports.

Ability to multitask technical activities and office duties.

1 year minimum of verifiable experience in budgeting and material management.
