Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division (EPD)
EPD offers integrated solutions, parts, and services to meet the needs of our various commercial and industrial electric power customers. EPD supports a wide range of customer applications across the globe, including providing backup power to hospitals, providing emergency power when natural disasters strike, and supporting critical infrastructure for data centers, municipalities, and more. Senior Design Engineer
The Senior Design Engineer role will be responsible for design, development, building, and implementing new products, components, or technologies.

Additional Information

Location: Lafayette, IN

Domestic travel up to 25% & minimal international travel required.

Domestic relocation assistance is offered.

Visa sponsorship is not offered.

Office 5 days per week.

Onsite five days a week.

What You Will Do

Research new materials and competitive products; organize, coordinate, and execute the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.

Assist supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance; oversee drafting and testing specialists.

Develop and document functional requirements and translate them into detail design documents; participate in buy‑build analysis for product components.

Participate in and support proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.

What You Will Have – Degree Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.

Coach others on orthographic, isometric and axonometric projections.

Present complex products and systems graphically.

Manipulate design objects, change projections, manage drawing layers.

Direct matrix computations for object transforms.

Consult on benefits and drawbacks of design approaches.

Compare bird's‑eye and worm's‑eye views.

Product Design – MFG

Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools for product design; convert customer requirements into product design.

Develop improvement plans and evaluate design outcomes.

Advise on development of multiple products and their functionality.

Train others on advanced tools and approaches.

Monitor processes and procedures to ensure functional requirements are met.

Evaluate customer feedback and consult on functional weaknesses.

Control design and development costs via effective resource coordination.

Product Design and Development

Knowledge of product features; design, build, and develop new product or service from concept to production.

Develop organizational standards and processes.

Create and introduce new techniques to expedite development.

Supervise management of diverse product types.

Develop proof‑of‑concept exercises to test validity.

Advise on solutions for complex design problems.

Design working prototypes of proposed products or services.

Top Candidates Will Have

Experience with CFD analysis and Creo CAD.

Experience with soft calculations (or soft computing).

Salary
Pay Range: $112,710.00 – $169,060.00. Compensation and benefits may vary depending on individual factors.
