
Municipal Court Judge

The Municipal Court Judge oversees the operations of the Municipal Court of Record and ensures fair, impartial, and efficient administration of justice for the City of San Marcos. This role presides over court proceedings, issues judicial orders, and provides legal interpretation essential to maintaining public trust, due process, and effective case management. The position also provides judicial and administrative leadership to support court staff, ensure compliance with legal mandates, and facilitate coordination with law enforcement and other City departments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
Five (5) years of legal experience, with two (2) years of related judicial experience.
Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must maintain active licensure with the State Bar of Texas and remain in good standing.
Must comply with all professional, ethical, and legal standards applicable to judicial officers.
Must complete any statutory mandated judicial training or continuing education requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience presiding over a municipal, county, or similar court of record.
Knowledge of municipal law, traffic law, city ordinances, and court administrative operations.
Experience working with or managing staff in a court or legal setting.
