Associate Dean of Curriculum, Scheduling, and Student Affairs
The University of La Verne is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas at this time. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Job Description Summary
The Associate Dean is a 12‑month administrative position, holding associate professor or professor rank with tenure. The role reports directly to the Dean and, in consultation with the Associate Dean (Faculty Affairs, Effectiveness, and Research), provides leadership in the Dean’s absence. The administrator can teach one course per semester and maintain an active scholarly agenda.
The position provides administrative and operational support for curriculum, academic planning, and student affairs: catalog review, curricular updates, oversight of academic scheduling, coordinating department and program schedule changes, monitoring course distribution and course assignments, overseeing discipline‑specific student performance scholarships and Dean’s Awards, handling student grievances, and liaising with department and program chairs and other university constituencies (Registrar’s Office, ROC, ULV Online, etc.). The Administrator will act as ex‑officio on CAS Curriculum, Committee, UGAP Committee, and GE Committee.
Minimum Qualifications
History of effective leadership in a culture of shared governance.
Experience in strategic planning and collaborative work with faculty and academic leaders to identify academic priorities and develop strategies and tactics to achieve them.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to separate and understand the differences between serving as an academic administrator (Associate Dean) and relinquishing faculty perspective when representing the Dean’s Office or making objective decisions.
Benefits Summary
Actual compensation is determined by job‑related skills, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The offered wage or salary is one aspect of total compensation. Benefits include: comprehensive health and wellness plan, tuition remission program for employee, spouse, and dependent children, contribution to the University’s 403B retirement plan, and a generous time‑off plan. Employment is contingent on successful completion and clearance of a background check and employment verification.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. Clear verbal and written communication is essential. The noise level is generally low to moderate. The position may require sustained focus and mental stamina to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Duties
Collaborate with the Associate Dean and CAS Department/program chairs on academic scheduling, course load assignments, reduction of low‑enrollment courses, curriculum changes, and instructional record keeping (20%).
Collaborate with the Dean, Registrar’s Office, and Provost’s Office to lead academic scheduling processes, monitor course enrollment and faculty assignments (10%).
Oversee student grievances, curriculum and scheduling adjustments for compliance with university policies, and assist chairs and faculty with scheduling issues (10%).
