R0000013950# **Position Overview**UHS Wilson Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for an Anesthesia Technician to join our surgical services team! Under the direction of an anesthesia provider, the Anesthesia Technician supports the safe and efficient delivery of anesthesia care by assisting with equipment preparation, maintenance, and workflow coordination.

The technician is responsible for flushing lines of air, zero calibration of the monitor and priming IV pumps. Collaborates with anesthesia provider while inserting invasive lines, such as IV, arterial, CVP, Swan Ganz introducer. Upon insertion of the pulmonary artery catheter, the technician is responsible for connecting non-sterile catheter lines and flushing with saline solution and inflating the balloon.* Coordinates and sets-up for difficult intubation cases, emergency and non-emergency. Organizes all the needed equipment, such as standard and flexible fiber optic laryngoscopes, light source, various sizes of endotracheal tubes and LMAS.* Accompanies anesthesia provider to CPR’s and traumas when anesthesia is requested. The Anesthesiologist, technician and nursing staff collaborate to determine equipment and supplies needed to prompt for management of care.* Procedures done outside of the OR suite will require a transporting of the anesthesia machine and supply cart. Locations include catheter lab, CT scan, angio suite, interventional radiology, ECT and GI lab. Set-up requires the anesthesia machine to be plugged in and all gas lines connected. The machine will then be tested prior to the start of the procedure by the technician, then the attending anesthesia provider.* Assists the anesthesia provider and OR staff in securing EKG wires, BP cuff and pulse oximeter sensors to include set-ups for neonatal and pediatric cases.* Stocks IV solutions and supplies in anesthesia supply carts and anesthesia machines daily in the operating rooms, delivery room, radiology, CT, angio suite, GI lab, ECT and catheter lab. Checks supplies for sterility and expiration dates wherever supplies are located. Checks each room to ensure equipment is operable and appropriate, especially during evening and night shifts prior to start of AM schedule. Checks O2 and N2O tank on each machine, ensures availability of emergency equipment (i.e, resuscitation bags) in each room, and malignant hypothermia cart is stocked.* Maintains all anesthesia machines by keeping machines and carts free of dust, blood, sputum and drug contaminants; replacing used suction canisters and hoses from each machine and ensuring all items needing sterilization are processed according to procedure.* Checks all oxygen monitors and replaces electrolyte and/or sensor membranes as needed. Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs on all anesthesia equipment, i.e., fluid warmers, Bair huggers, light sources, BP, pulse oximeters, EKG, CO2, BIS monitors, laryngoscopes blades and handles, infusion pumps, Mcgrath, glideslope, ultrasound and anesthesia machines within thirteen OR suites. Checks and supplies a number of emergency carts, such as malignant hypothermia, pediatric crash cart, and difficult intubation cart.* Performs and documents the above activities on a scheduled basis. Consults with Biomed to ensure equipment inspections are performed. Collaborate with Biomed on hazardous gas analysis with the outside vendor so that every OR suite is inspected annually.* Under the direction of the OR Manager, OR Director and Chairman of Anesthesia Department will manage the everyday operations of the anesthesia department (non-patient related). Standardizes supplies through work with Product Evaluation Committee, Specialty Procurement Committee and other appropriate departments. Works with purchasing personnel to obtain lowest prices on products. Arranges for the evaluation of supplies and equipment by planning and conducting trials. Makes recommendations for capital purchase of equipment. Works with the OR Manager and OR Director will control cost and stay within budgetary limits.* Assists the Nurse Educator on new policies and the updating of old policies.
