The Surgical Technologist participates in the delivery of individualized peri-operative registered nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse.
Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care.The Surgical Technologist* Establishes and maintains a sterile field and assures team maintains a sterile environment.* Correctly and safely passes instruments to clinician.* Participants in surgical counts (sponge, needle and instruments), per policy.* Communicates with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, other necessary staff and patients to facilitate continuity of care.* Follows policies, procedures, all regulatory standards and patient safety goals.* Participates in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.* Participates in unit educational activities.# **What We Require:****Education:**
High school graduate or equivalent required.
**Experience:**
Candidate must have gained experience through hands-on experience and are grandfathered in the State of Va - OR - candidate has successfully completed a training program for surgical technology during the person's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
**Licensure, certification, and/or registration:**
Must have obtained registration with the state of Virginia prior to 1/1/2022.
**Other Minimum Qualifications:**Basic knowledge of instrumentations. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.This job description is only meant to be a representative summary of the major responsibilities and accountabilities performed by the incumbents of this job.
