Position Overview
Kiewit is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with deep, proven experience in mission‑critical data center electrical commissioning. This role is accountable for commissioning, validation, energization readiness, and long‑term reliability of complex electrical systems supporting data center operations.

The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as the technical authority for electrical system performance, leading redundancy verification, integrated systems testing, and failure‑mode validation to ensure systems perform safely and reliably under both normal and fault conditions. The role requires a strong balance of hands‑on site leadership and office‑based engineering rigor, with direct responsibility for commissioning deliverables, field execution, and issue resolution.

Location
Roles will be full‑time on‑site at construction projects. Candidates must be willing to travel to project locations.

Responsibilities

Own and lead the electrical commissioning scope for mission‑critical data center projects from pre‑functional testing through integrated systems testing (IST) and turnover.

Serve as the technical authority for electrical system validation, ensuring compliance with design intent, operational requirements, and mission‑critical performance standards.

Lead and coordinate all electrical testing phases, including factory witness testing (FWT), site acceptance testing (SAT), equipment start‑up, functional performance testing (FPT), and integrated systems testing (IST).

Plan and execute electrical energization, including sequencing, risk assessments, live system coordination, and contingency planning.

Validate electrical system redundancy across N, N+1, and 2N architectures with live testing, simulated fault conditions, and load manipulation.

Develop, review, and approve office‑based engineering deliverables: commissioning plans and scripts; redundancy and failure‑mode analysis; test reports and final commissioning records.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues during commissioning and turnover to ensure safe, reliable, and operational readiness.

Validate performance of major electrical systems: utility service, medium‑ and low‑voltage distribution, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, protective relaying, and downstream distribution.

Coordinate with design engineers, construction teams, commissioning partners, vendors, utilities, AHJs, and client stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and commissioning team members.

Support turnover activities and deliver accurate, complete documentation for operations, maintenance, and long‑term facility reliability.

Qualifications
Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, with significant hands‑on site experience.

Proven experience leading electrical commissioning for data center or mission‑critical facilities, including integrated systems testing and redundancy validation.

Strong, hands‑on experience with electrical system redundancy verification, live power systems and energization activities, and failure‑mode/fault‑condition testing.

Demonstrated ability to lead complex commissioning activities spanning field execution and office‑based engineering deliverables.

Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and technical problem‑solving skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of leading technical discussions with internal teams, commissioning agents, vendors, and clients.

Preferred

Experience on large‑scale hyperscale or enterprise data center projects.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.

Strong familiarity with industry standards and best practices for mission‑critical electrical systems and commissioning.

Prior experience working within a contractor‑led commissioning or execution‑focused environment.

Other Requirements

Work productively and meet deadlines.

Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders.

Perform work safely and effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use, and policies.

Work normal operating hours and overtime or weekends as required.

May work at various locations with varied conditions.
