Job Summary
This position will take on the responsibilities of a full range of substation construction and maintenance work on electrical distribution and transmission substations. This position works inside energized and de‑energized substations. This position requires a Class A CDL license with HAZMAT endorsement within 6 months of hiring. Planned and unplanned overtime work will be required. The majority of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and is considered heavy labor including climbing steel structures, working off ladders and aerial lifts, and handling lift tools and materials up to 75 pounds on the ground and aloft.

Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction not to exceed 290 pounds.
Responsibilities

Climb steel structures and work off ladders and aerial lifts.

Meet NERC requirements.

Drive and/or operate vehicles for long distances.

Operate heavy equipment to construct and maintain distribution and transmission substations.

Work with mineral oils, paints, compressed gases (air, nitrogen, SF-6, etc.), battery acids, PCB’s, solvents, explosives, pumps, etc.

Qualifications
The selected candidate must be able to obtain a Class A CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL with Dominion training within 6 months of employment.

Working Conditions

Work schedule is 4 x 10 hour days Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work outdoors 95% of the day.

Work in inclement weather as needed or service dictates.

Must be available for overtime including extended workdays.

Union – IBEW Local 50 VA/NC/WVA. This is a Local 50 union represented position with a starting pay rate of $28.95 and will receive a 10% wage supplement.

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and climb steel structures required.

Preferred Qualifications

Class A CDL with HAZMAT endorsement or CDL learner's permit.

Previous electric and/or utility experience.

Experience with forklift operations, aerial lifts, power-driven equipment, painting, cutting equipment, pneumatic equipment, and hydraulic equipment.

Military Requirements
Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience are considered for this opportunity.

Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Class A CDL license with HAZMAT endorsement required within 6 months of hire.

Test Description
This job requires recommended test results from Modern Hire Electrician Virtual Job Tryout administered online. The assessment is untimed but usually takes about 45 minutes to complete.
