The Arc Erie County NY is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSP) for our Day Services program on Main St. Buffalo, NY.
Responsibilities
Supports people with disabilities in a center-based program.
Teach daily living, social, and adaptive skills to increase independence.
Provide training for personal hygiene, cooking, and safety.
May take individuals on community outings.
Document progress to help our people achieve their goals.
Assure overall safety by maintaining safety standards and providing regular training.
Intervene with inappropriate or potentially injurious behaviors in the least restrictive manner possible.
Transport people to medical appointments, recreational activities, and other scheduled events.
Document services, skill acquisitions, and supports as per the Staff Action Plan.
Assist people with personal monies and shopping needs.
Provide first aid and address routine health care needs.
Assist with meal preparation, meal planning, and food purchasing.
Maintain a clean, safe environment through housekeeping and minor maintenance tasks.
Provide input to the treatment team in developing a person‑centered plan.
Assist in assessing a person’s skills and behavior.
Attend staff meetings, trainings, supervisory conferences, and other assigned meetings.
Check agency email regularly, update supervisor on contact changes, and complete online training modules on time.
Follow DSP core competency expectations for evaluations.
Assist people with community integration by providing support and training.
Remain available and perform duties regardless of location changes.
Redeploy as needed during emergencies to provide staffing coverage.
Maintain confidentiality of people’s information.
Interact with families, stakeholders, and the community as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent (preferred).
Valid NYS Driver’s License with approved record required.
Previous experience working with people with disabilities (preferred).
Completion of Arc Erie County New York’s required training, including SCIP, First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification, within 90 days of hire.
Schedule & Pay
$22.89 per hour.
Mon – Fri 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (35 hours weekly).
10 paid holidays off.

Monitor meals and provide assistance with eating, following feeding protocols and using adaptive equipment.

Develop and facilitate activities and volunteer opportunities for program participants.
Essential Job Functions
Physical demands and exposure risk outlined on attached form (A).
Mental requirements: ability to read, write, analyze, show good judgment, math and decision‑making skills; independent action, planning, prioritizing, and following directions; work independently and cooperatively; meet deadlines.
Human relations skills: communicate positively, demonstrate leadership, serve as a role model, receive supervision instruction positively, adhere to policies, and maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
Equipment operation: knowledge of motor vehicle operation and use of office equipment (computer, copier, fax machine).
Adhere to fundamental rights and protections for people, advocate through person‑centered planning, promote dignity and respect, maintain safety and health, and provide community integration opportunities.
Demonstrate agency values: integrity, respect, responsibility, trust, teamwork, positive attitude, learning, honesty.
Good attendance is essential.
