Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustment and repairs on truck equipment such as Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, or meet expectations.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely manner.
Work independently and manage daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and discussion of RO findings.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA and DOT.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate may also hold an additional degree or certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or have 5 years of experience in a related field.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen months.
This position follows regulations issued by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Candidates must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
Submit a current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining, or complete a DOT physical if less than four months remain.
Candidates must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating regulations.
Safe drivers needed; a valid driver’s license required. Candidates must hold a valid state‑of‑residence license and obtain/maintain their Driver Qualification File.
