About the Role
District 97 seeks a dedicated and dynamic individual to coach our Summer Volleyball Clinic for rising sixth‑grade students. The clinic will run 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM from July 13–17 for Brooks Middle School students and July 27–31 for Julian Middle School students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with middle‑school students, past experience coaching this sport, comprehensive knowledge of skills and strategies, and the ability to create an inclusive and supportive team environment for students from diverse backgrounds. The candidate will support the district’s equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Promotes positive character and citizenship in student‑athletes.

Develops and implements clear standards and expectations in alignment with the D97 Family Handbook.

Communicates effectively and appropriately with students, parents, and stakeholders.

Plans team events and activities in coordination with school administrators.

Promotes the sport in the school community.

Provides appropriate supervision before, during, and after all team activities.

Maintains current safety certifications (e.g., concussion certification).

Compiles and maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms.

Commands respect by demonstrating appropriate conduct and behavior at all times.

Interacts appropriately with the head coach and/or assistant coaches.

Ensures all necessary paperwork and forms are accurate and complete prior to deadlines.

Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of the sport, including skills and strategies.

Ensures all parents/guardians are informed of safety expectations and procedures.

Provides appropriate guidance and support to student‑athletes during the try‑out process.

Maintains individual and team statistics/records.

Provides frequent and timely assessment and feedback of team and individual performance.

Candidate Qualifications

Past experience coaching middle‑school students, ideally in volleyball.

Comprehensive knowledge of the sport including skills and strategies.

Current safety certifications (e.g., concussion certification).

Physical Requirements
This position requires the performance of light work that may involve exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. It includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking, standing, occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in indoor and outdoor environments, in varying temperatures and climatic conditions, and requires supervision of student-athletes.
