Job Description
Ride a school bus for exceptional children and assist the school bus driver in maintaining discipline while the bus is in operation; operate the mechanical lift. Assist students with loading and unloading.

Position Details
Hours:

6.5 to 8 hours per day – depending on route (plus a 30‑minute unpaid lunch)

Contract Length:

178 days per year (170 student instructional days, 4 holidays, 4 extended days)

Contract Adjustments:

Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date

Employment Status:

Full‑time with benefits

Employment Type:

10‑month employee on the classified pay schedule

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

High school diploma or GED

Documentation:

Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire

Experience:

Up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience preferred; prior experience working with students, intervention systems, and small‑group instruction is strongly desired

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Compensation & Experience Credit
Salary for the 2026-2027 school year will be based on Board approved salary schedule.

2025-2026 Pay Scale

Starting Pay (Step 0):

$16.37/hour

Experienced Pay (Step 10):

$20.16/hour

New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience.

Payroll Note:

While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year‑long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.

Membership in the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA)

Life Insurance:

$20,000 paid by the State of Kentucky and $30,000 paid by BCPS, total $50,000 (free to the employee)

Time Off:

Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and Emergency Leave (prorated). Unused Personal Leave rolls over to Sick Leave. Unused Sick Leave rolls over
