PRIMARY PURPOSE
Ride buses and assist the driver in ensuring safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Student Management
Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street following established safety procedures.
Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations.
Learn and adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
Manage student behavior and report discipline concerns in a timely manner to the appropriate administrator.
Communicate with teachers and parents regarding student behavior on the bus when necessary.
Routes and Schedules
Become familiar with all routes and schedules to assist the driver.
Complete and maintain accurate, updated, and timely records and reports.
Safety
Ensure seat belts, harnesses, and car seats are used correctly and assist students with safety devices as needed.
Follow emergency procedures, including evacuation, and assist with first aid when necessary.
Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
Follow proper procedures when lifting and assisting students.
Other
Follow procedures established by transportation and special education departments.
Review transportation forms to ensure student IEP requirements are followed.
Assist the driver in keeping the bus clean.
Work irregular hours as needed.
Attend and complete required annual training.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.

Frequent standing and sitting; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Frequent walking and reaching.
Lifting:
Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more), assisting with student positioning, physical support, and moving adaptive equipment.
Environment:
Work inside and outside; exposure to weather conditions, noise, vehicle fumes, and biological hazards; work around moving vehicles and machinery.
Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
