Electrical Field Engineer — Data Center Operations

Fluidstack, Buffalo, NY, United States

About Fluidstack

At Fluidstack, we build the compute, data centers, and power that will fuel artificial superintelligence. We supply GWs of compute capabilities to the world’s biggest AI Labs at industry-defining speeds.
Our team is small, fast, and obsessed with quality. We own outcomes end-to-end, challenge assumptions, and treat our customers' problems as our own. No task is beneath anyone here.
There are a few thousand people who will shape the trajectory of superintelligence. Come and be one of them.
About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Field Engineer to support the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of critical electrical infrastructure across our hyperscale AI data center campuses. This is a field-first role — you will be on the floor, in the gear, and directly responsible for keeping our electrical systems running at the reliability levels that AI infrastructure demands. In addition to day-to-day operational responsibilities, this role carries engineering accountability for new construction support, capacity upgrades, site audits, and design review — providing the technical depth needed to both operate and improve the infrastructure you own.
The ideal candidate has come up through electrical systems in mission-critical environments, is equally comfortable in a switchgear lineup and a design review meeting, and takes personal ownership of the reliability of everything connected to their single-line.
Responsibilities

Own day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high and medium voltage electrical systems including utility feeds, transformers, switchgear, generators, ATS/STS, UPS, PDUs, RPPs, and busway distribution.

Develop, review, and execute MOPs, EOPs, and AOPs for planned and emergency electrical maintenance events; manage and coordinate third-party contractors and vendors performing work on site.

Monitor EPMS and BMS platforms for electrical system performance, alarm response, and capacity tracking; maintain accurate as-built documentation and one-line diagrams following system modifications.

Perform design and submittal reviews for new data centers and own engineering solutions for existing facility upgrades that add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.

Troubleshoot electrical faults and equipment failures; conduct formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA), lead engineering site audits, and produce risk reports with recommended mitigations and remediation plans.

Act as resident engineer during new construction and commissioning; interface with internal design, server hardware, and EHS teams while providing procedure reviews, ad-hoc training, and critical event support across multiple regions.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

NETA or ASHRAE certification, or commissioning-specific education or coursework

Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment

Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers

Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment data sheets

Strong familiarity with NFPA 70E, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards

Experience with EPMS platforms and BMS/SCADA systems

Proven ability to develop and execute MOPs and EOPs in a live critical environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of building codes and regulations applicable to your region

Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems

Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment

Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing

Experience in a hyperscale or colocation data center environment

Electrical license (Journeyman or Master) or PE licensure

Uptime Institute AOS or equivalent data center operations certification

Experience with commissioning programs at Tier III or Tier IV facilities

Familiarity with CMMS platforms for work order management and documentation
