Overview
Amazon Leo is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. The Hardware Safety & Compliance team ensures Amazon Leo customer terminals meet rigorous safety standards throughout their lifecycle, driving safety‑by‑design principles, establishing safety frameworks, and coordinating cross‑functional efforts across Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Product Management.

Key Responsibilities

Perform safety assessments such as Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), System Safety Assessments (PSSAs, SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Common Mode Analyses (CMA), and Single Fault Analysis and Testing.

Conduct safety‑related tests and coach lab engineers to scale capabilities.

Analyze electrical schematics for vulnerabilities, perform Thermal/Power Model Analysis for Total Dissipated Power (TDP), and identify mitigation measures to ensure product safety.

Drive actions and resolutions with Product Design teams (mechanical, electrical, legal, and reliability) to deliver on Amazon's product safety goals.

Perform safety probabilistic prediction of failure mechanisms, including Probabilistic Risk Assessments (PRAs) on products under development and products in the field.

Incorporate lessons learned into product knowledge bases and into roadmap programs.

Champion the cause of safety and develop tools and processes for Safety as needed.

Basic Qualifications

Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience in data analytics and statistical analysis, including Weibull, Exponential, Poisson, etc.

EXPORT CONTROL REQUIREMENT: Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.

Experience with the project management of technical projects.

Master's degree in Electrical/Communications Engineering, or experience in communication theory, OFDM, MIMO, Digital/Wireless Communication Systems, or RF engineering.

Ability to perform analysis such as lifetime analysis, accelerated factor studies, reliability block diagrams, fault tree testing, and warranty analysis.

Salary ranges: USA, WA, Bellevue – 137,300.00 – 185,700.00 USD annually; USA, WA, Redmond – 137,300.00 – 185,700.00 USD annually.
