We are seeking
a MARKETING MANAGER
to join the Scientific Angler’s Team! This is an onsite position in Midland, Michigan.
The Scientific Anglers Marketing Manager is responsible for the strategic vision, concepts, implementation, tracking, and reporting of all multimedia marketing within the Scientific Anglers business. The role includes developing and delivering disciplined reporting of merchandising, marketing and web site usage (social and affiliates), supporting data analytics, forecasting, web product placements, and overseeing all implementations. The manager will monitor key metrics and sales performance data to develop recommendations that optimize future product marketing opportunities.
Position Interfaces
The Marketing Manager reports directly to the President of Scientific Anglers and regularly interfaces with Sales, R&D, Merchandising Operations, Customer Service, Accounting, and Advertising and Creative teams (both in‑house and third‑party). The role also collaborates with Orvis Marketing, Information Technology, executive leadership, media partners, key accounts and customers, sales representatives, and Brand Ambassadors and Advisors.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement SEO and paid‑media programs that are monitored, reported, and acted upon weekly.
Create the annual marketing calendar including events, domestic and foreign programs, and promotional events aimed at brand awareness and sales.
Negotiate all collateral projects—workbooks, ad campaigns, promotional material, in‑store POP, tech bulletins, and video assets—domestically and abroad and allocate spend to meet goals and budgets.
Ensure key customer marketing plans are addressed and scheduled.
Work with merchants to draw conclusions and recommendations from analytic findings.
Report on homepage usage, opportunities, and performance.
Define e‑commerce best practices through competitive analysis and offer actionable recommendations.
Deliver email reporting.
Create web marketing plans and budgets.
Develop best practices for merchandising and reporting through social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X, SEO, paid placement, and affiliates.
Execute and maintain packaging and branding that meets sales and margin objectives.
Collaborate with R&D to understand key product features, advantages, and benefits, and communicate them through multimedia marketing.
Travel frequently for trade shows, consumer circuit, dealer events, industry events, photo/video shoots, etc.; some international travel possible.
Coordinate with stakeholders and team members to set and execute consumer show circuit plans.
Key Performance Measurements
Execute a three‑year marketing plan that drives a 20% increase in Scientific Anglers’ sales across all distribution points.
Develop and maintain disciplined merchandising and marketing reports that provide transparency, insights, and clarity on all marketing programs.
Strategically set the mission, vision, budget, and tactics for marketing as part of the three‑year plan.
Maintain brand identity aligned with sales, margin, and operational goals in collaboration with executives, managers, and third parties.
Competencies and Requirements
MBA or 5+ years’ relevant experience in optimizing marketing systems.
Proven in‑depth understanding of marketing analytics and ability to translate data into insights and market success.
Strong computer skills: MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Meta Analytics, Adobe InDesign, and Illustrator.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to articulate complex ideas to a business‑savvy yet non‑technical audience.
Experience managing third‑party partners (advertising agency, creative agency, graphics vendors).
High knowledge of web and marketing best practices.
Risk‑taking mindset and developer of new programs.
Analytical knowledge of channel/customer dynamics and strong desire to develop full channel expertise.
Creative business thinker who supports the Scientific Anglers product philosophy and brand.
Knowledge of the outdoor and/or fly‑fishing market and industry.
High personal integrity.
Strong networking capabilities internally and externally.
Skilled written and verbal communicator who represents core values and business goals of category teams.
Skilled leader and motivator in a team environment.
Strong understanding of fly fishing.
