JOB TITLE: Adventure Specialist
FLSA STATUS: Seasonal
REPORTS TO: Program Director, Camp Director
Position Summary
The Adventure specialist oversees camp’s climbing wall, zap line, and low ropes course. They lead campers and staff in safe operations of these activities for 10 weeks during the summer.
General
Camp Massapoag Activity Specialists are responsible for leading safe and constructive special activity programming in Archery, Arts and Crafts, Nature, Waterfront, Ropes and Boating. The specialists plan and lead programs for their activity, maintain the facilities and equipment needed for safe operation, and assist counselors in supervising campers while they participate.
Job Requirements
Plan and oversee a variety of programs and activities for the designated specialty area. Ensure the activities are safe, age appropriate for the different camper groups and contribute to their growth and well‑being.
Work with counselors to supervise campers while engaged in the respective activity area. Ensure adherence to all safety policies by campers and staff.
Clean and maintain activity area facilities and equipment. Work with program director to secure any needed supplies or replace any unusable materials. Maintain up‑to‑date inventory lists of program area.
Cooperate with Program Director and staff in planning and running all‑camp special activities.
Provide additional support to counselors for supervision of campers as needed.
Participate in all agreed‑upon and assigned aspects of campers’ day which includes but is not limited to: bus‑in and bus‑out, attendance, activities, daily opening/closing duties.
Attend all required staff trainings and meetings.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
At least 18 years of age
Complete Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sexual Offender Registration Information (SORI) check
Up-to-date immunization record and health history
Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
Experience guiding children and expertise in specialty field
Leadership and organization skills
Lifeguard and Small Watercraft Safety training (Boating)
Level 1 Archery Instructor certification (Archery)
Essential Functions
Ability to communicate with groups and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond appropriately to critical situations and environmental hazards
Must have the physical strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of campers in variable outdoor conditions
Capable of appropriate and sustained mental, emotional and social interactions in a youth centered and constantly changing camp setting.
