Job Description
Position TT23101: TT Pre-Veterinary Technician Instructor (1.0 FTE Con). Coordinates the Tri-Tech Pre-Veterinary Technician program in accordance with Washington State requirements. The program prepares students with foundational knowledge and skills related to veterinary assisting, veterinary technology, and animal health care, emphasizing safety, animal handling and restraint, medical terminology, and career readiness for entry‑level positions and continued education in veterinary technology or animal science.

Required Qualifications

Possess a Veterinary Technician License (LVT) with a minimum of an associate’s degree in veterinary technology.

Work experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician with at least 6,000 hours of related clinical experience.

Demonstrated experience and skill in safe animal handling, restraint, basic clinical procedures, and lab/animal facility operations.

Ability and willingness to be a team player to develop and promote the Tri-Tech Pre-Veterinary Technology program.

Ability and willingness to develop and implement a work‑based learning internship program with local veterinary and animal‑care partners.

Demonstrated punctuality, work attendance record, and satisfactory evaluations.

Current First Aid/CPR card or ability to obtain prior to the start of the school year.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated teaching ability in Veterinary Technology, animal science, or related fields.

Demonstrated success or training in providing leadership and guidance to the student leadership requirements of the program (e.g., FFA or equivalent) including supervising student officers, committees, and events.

Evidence of teacher training or experience which reflects interactive, student‑centered instruction, using technology and real‑world applications to enhance teaching and learning.

Evidence of experience working with a program advisory committee and community partners (veterinary clinics, animal shelters, industry partners).

Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise, and maintain a safe, efficient laboratory and animal‑care environment, including daily animal husbandry routines and recordkeeping.

Demonstrated ability to use/learn computer technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google apps, electronic grading and attendance systems, email communication) and to implement these tools into daily classroom and lab instruction.

Evidence of satisfactory experience in curriculum development, classroom management, and organization for routine detail.

Responsibilities

Teach the Tri-Tech Pre‑Veterinary Technician program in alignment with state‑approved course frameworks.

Plan, deliver, and assess rigorous, hands‑on instruction in veterinary assisting skills, animal care, and related science concepts in both classroom and lab/animal‑care settings.

Lead, supervise, and manage daily operation of the program’s laboratory and animal‑care facilities, including animal handling, feeding, cleaning, health monitoring, and documentation in accordance with industry standards and local policies.

Lead and direct the Tri‑Tech Pre‑Veterinary Technician Instructional Assistant.

Work with the appropriate advisory committee(s); attend all meetings and implement advisory committee recommendations.

Work cooperatively with other staff to align program competencies and expectations with district‑approved program standards and state‑approved frameworks.

Serve as a student leadership advisor and provide opportunities for all students to participate in student leadership activities.

Intentionally embed leadership, employability skills, and workplace professionalism into daily instruction, labs, and work‑based learning experiences.

Teach and assess safety within the curricular program, including animal handling and restraint, infection control, biosecurity, sharps and chemical safety, personal protective equipment, and emergency procedures.

Model lab and industry safety and hold students accountable to all safety and animal‑welfare expectations.

Motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles.

Maintain open communication with parents, students, staff, and administration.

Believe diversity is a strength and have the attitude that we will meet the needs of any child who enters our school.

Participate in the development of curriculum and incorporate technology into the instructional process.

Maintain program budget and participate in annual program planning, including purchasing and inventory of lab and animal‑care supplies and equipment.

Integrate business and community partnerships (veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, shelters, and related businesses).

Be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating changes in facility use.

Participate positively and actively in a professional learning community that is collegial, shared responsibility for student success, and a continual focus on student learning.

Establish a safe, welcoming, and purposeful learning environment for all students, colleagues, families, and guests.

Follow the Tri‑Tech Skills Center calendar including school start and end dates, holidays, professional development days, weather delays, etc.

Use and learn computer technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic grading and attendance, email communication) and implement these skills into daily classroom and lab instruction.

Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities, including accommodations in lab and animal‑care environments.

Physical Demands
Mobility:

Regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods, push or pull 18‑26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arm.

Sense:

Required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds, communicate effectively in person and by telephone, taste and smell; vision required: close, far, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Lifting:

Must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs, lift overhead.

Work Environment:

Work outdoors in wide variety of temperatures (-10 F to 100 F+). May be exposed to wet/humid conditions. Noise level is moderate.
