Position Summary
The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of all students in grades PreK-12. This position supports student learning by providing direct nursing care, managing chronic and acute health conditions, and collaborating with staff, families, and healthcare providers to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
Qualifications
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Arkansas
CPR and First Aid certification
Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing preferred
Strong communication, organizational, and decision‑making skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to students and staff as needed
Assess and manage acute illnesses and injuries
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and 504/IEP health components
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and district policy
Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, severe allergies)
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with state and federal laws
Conduct health screenings as required (vision, hearing, BMI, etc.) and coordinate follow‑up care
Serve as a liaison between school, home, and healthcare providers
Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and report as required by the state
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to student support planning
Respond to medical emergencies and implement appropriate interventions
Promote a safe school environment through risk assessment and mitigation strategies
Additional Responsibilities
Train and oversee paraprofessionals providing personal care services to students, ensuring proper technique, safety, and adherence to care plans
Coordinate and manage Medicaid personal care billing, including documentation, compliance, and collaboration with appropriate agencies
Assist in developing and updating school health policies and procedures
Train school personnel on basic health‑related topics, including medication administration and emergency response
Support infection control practices and communicable disease management
Work Environment
School‑based setting serving students from PreK through 12th grade
Requires mobility between campuses or buildings as needed
May involve occasional lifting and responding to emergency situations
Reports To
Superintendent or designated administrator
Job Requirements
Bachelor degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
