
Laboratory Technician

Provide laboratory testing services such as mechanical, environmental, high‑voltage, high‑power, and continuous current testing to Hubbell business units and third‑party customers. Typical products tested are electrical utility distribution and transmission products. Supports product test programs in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory using established test methods with developing technical independence.
Responsibilities
Perform product testing of electrical utility products by operating test equipment in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.
Execute test plans using established laboratory procedures, quality documents, and industry standards.
Prepare accurate test reports describing test objects, equipment used, procedures, and results.
Make routine technical decisions within approved procedures and escalate abnormal conditions or results.
Review collected test data for basic accuracy and consistency with test plans.
Participate in laboratory support activities including calibration, maintenance, training, cleaning, safety, and improvement projects.
Collaborate with engineers and peers to support product development, R&D, and design/process changes.
Comply with laboratory safety, quality, and accreditation requirements at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
Completion of a 2-year post‑secondary education or training program (associate degree, trade school, military training, or approved formal OJT).
Relevant experience with product testing, electricity, power generation, automation, machining, or laboratory operations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred
Experience with drafting or design software (e.g., Autodesk, SolidWorks, etc).
Exposure to data acquisition systems, basic programming, or PLC‑based systems.
Familiarity with industry standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASTM, ISO, CSA, etc).
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions; ability to travel on business‑related trips; ability to communicate; ability to work on a personal computer or laboratory equipment as required.
