Job Duties
Carries out all duties required to maintain optimum levels of cleanliness and disinfection in patient care, ancillary, and public areas of the hospital—including resident/patient rooms, bathrooms, nursing stations, ancillary rooms, lounges, waiting areas, public restrooms, and examination rooms.
Completes responsibilities assigned or directed accurately and timely, following the 5-Step Cleaning process and other departmental processes. Duties include dusting, mopping floors, damp mopping spillages, reconditioning floors, spot washing walls, cleaning patient rooms (beds, venetian blinds, furniture), dusting furniture, washing and polishing all wooden and metal furniture, disposing of rubbish, cleaning restroom areas (toilets, mirrors, countertops, sinks), and restocking supplies.
Operates all cleaning equipment and supplies used by the department for various cleaning or buffing jobs.
Moves heavy objects such as beds, desks, and copy machines for cleaning purposes.
Identifies medical waste from regular waste and disposes of everything appropriately following hospital regulations.
Performs hand hygiene before and after transport of a patient.
Wears the laboratory coat provided during patient transport.
Escorts patients within the Medical Center to and from patient units via appropriate means (wheelchair, bed, stretcher), assisting nursing staff with lifting patients when requested.
Transports deceased patients or residents to the morgue.
Maintains records of assignments, including description of person/item, time of pick‑up and delivery, and obtaining required signatures.
Ensures patient safety and comfort (e.g., safety straps on wheelchairs and beds, IV pole attachment, IV bag adequacy, proper patient covers).
Keeps equipment (stretchers, wheelchairs) clean and in good repair.
Participates in mandatory educational and in‑service programs.
Exhibits customer service skills: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, helpfulness, pleasant attitude, and patience; responds professionally, caring and respectfully according to customer service performance expectations.
Maintains departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct; familiar with its Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
Possesses and maintains a Heart Saver Certification; performs lifesaving skills.
Performs other duties as assigned to support overall objectives of the department and organization.
Position Qualifications
Housekeeping experience a plus but not required.
Formal on‑the‑job training provided.
Minimum one year of previous patient care experience preferred.
Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Must possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification; perform lifesaving skills.
Education
High‑school diploma or equivalency preferred.
Job Setting / Physical Demands
All areas of the Medical Center.
Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs or more).
Frequent prolonged standing/walking.
Pushes/pulls or moves/heavy equipment/supplies.
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or crouching.

Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.
Salary
$19.00 per hour; differential $1.15 for evening, night & weekend shifts.
