Position Summary
The Painter/Plasterer Craftsperson performs skilled painting, staining, and plastering work to maintain, protect, and improve the appearance of district facilities. This position works independently to complete assigned work orders, applying knowledge of surface preparation methods, coating applications, and finishing techniques. The role requires knowledge of various paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, and lacquers and their appropriate application to interior and exterior surfaces, trim, and fixtures. The Painter/Plasterer Craftsperson coordinates with other maintenance shops as needed and reports labor, material costs, and work order information to the Foreperson daily. This position is part of the Skilled Trades career track within the Maintenance department. It operates with a high degree of independence and is expected to complete assignments with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
Completion of a trade school or vocational program in painting, finishing, or related field preferred
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial or institutional painting and plastering
Experience working in school or public facility environments preferred
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Oklahoma driver’s license with no restrictions that would preclude driving on the job required
Lead-based paint awareness or abatement certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of various paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, lacquers, and their appropriate application methods
Knowledge of surface preparation techniques for a variety of materials including wood, metal, drywall, and masonry
Proficiency with painting tools and equipment including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and mechanical lifts
Ability to match colors, mix coatings, and select appropriate materials for specific surfaces and conditions
Knowledge of plastering and drywall repair techniques
Understanding of applicable safety standards, SDS requirements, and proper handling of chemicals and coatings
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to plan and coordinate work schedules to complete assignments independently
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, school staff, and other trades personnel
Proficiency with CMMS software and basic computer applications including Microsoft Office
