Welder/Fabricator
WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC) is seeking to recruit a Welder/Fabricator.
Key Responsibilities
Perform welding repairs and maintenance to equipment including dozers, excavators, forklifts, trucks, trailers, drills.
Perform welding repairs and maintenance to ground‑engaging wear parts such as dozer blades, bucket cutting edges, crusher bars, carbide teeth, drill heads, screen bars, pins and bushings.
Perform repairs and modifications to specialized equipment such as boring and tunnelling equipment, welding rigs, cranes, winches, tensioners, pipe handling equipment, sea cans, drill heads, pipe plows, trenchers, pile drivers and prep machines.
Fabricate specialized engineered equipment from design drawings including micro tunnelling machines, pipe plows, utility rigs, pipe handling equipment, modular storage solutions, mobile welding rigs and trenching equipment.
Perform simplified design and fabrication of necessary modifications and solutions to equipment‑related challenges, including handrails, weatherproofing, modular storage solutions, lifting frames, skid frames, simple chassis/bodies, attachments and ground‑engaging tooling.
Demonstrate high levels of experience using carbon steel welding solutions such as GMAW/MIG welding, SMAW stick welding, plasma cutting, oxy‑fuel heating and cutting, grinding, shaping and forming, drilling, tapping and sawing carbon steel components.
Work safely unsupervised to perform these tasks.
Operate and direct heavy mobile lifting equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, overhead cranes, skid steers and jacks. Safely work in the vicinity of heavy mobile equipment such as dozers, excavators, cranes and trucks (formalized training & certification can be provided).
Follow simple fabrication drawings, compile material lists, and self‑manage day‑to‑day work based on the general direction of the equipment manager and foremen.
Preferred experience with CNC cutting tables; training and supervision will be provided for those without experience.
Preferred but not essential skills include press‑break operation, aluminum welding experience, lathe & milling operation experience, CAD design, and pipe/pressure vessel welding.
Wear appropriate protective gear and ensure compliance with established health/safety regulations.
Other duties may be assigned as reasonably required to support company objectives.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Proof of experience as a competent welder/fabricator.
Experience working on construction sites and with power tools.
Knowledge of construction site and shop environment best practices and safety procedures.
Working Conditions
This position is based at the Broussard, LA shop. Travel to project sites may be required.
Reporting Relationships
The Welder/Fabricator reports to the Corporate Logistics & Equipment Manager.
