Job Goal:
To support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students.
Qualifications:
College transcript showing a degree was earned.
College transcript showing at least 48 college level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre-requisite courses).
College transcript showing at least 24 college level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre-requisite courses) plus WorkKeys Assessment with passing scores in Workplace Documents (Reading) – score of 4 or better, Business Writing – score of 3 or better, and Applied Mathematics – score of 4 or better.
Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
Must obtain and maintain a CDL Bus license and drive a bus when called upon to do so.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Assistance : Gives group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provides individualized instruction; demonstrates various instructional activities; checks and corrects students’ work while in progress; keeps students on task; praises and reinforces achievement; reports student progress to teacher.
Instructional Preparation/Support : Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment, prepares visual aids and duplicates materials; reorganizes materials at the end of day; serves as proctor during testing; scores students’ papers as instructed by teacher; distributes and collects instructional materials; attends workshops.
Report and Records : Checks and reports attendance; enters data in health record, records student behavior and files data according to regulatory requirements.
Monitoring Student Behavior : Supervises students in the classroom and other locations; creates and distributes awards for positive behavior; promotes student self-esteem; teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others; reconciles minor student conflicts; participates in development of discipline and policy; disciplines misbehavior through approved methods; reports discipline problems to teacher or principal; reports significant change or lack of change in student behavior.
Bus Operation : Obtains and maintains CDL bus license; completes the pre-trip and post-trip inspection; drives a bus while maintaining proficiency; maintains bus route schedule; cleans the interior of the bus; reports delays and accidents; complies with traffic regulations; discharges students only at authorized stops and transports only authorized students; maintains discipline and reports undisciplined students to school administration.
Serves as team player and role model; demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports organizational core values; performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) when requested for driving a school bus; must communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders; must have finger dexterity and be able to perform basic operational functions (kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, repetitive motion).
Special Requirements:
Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
