
New Business Planning, Senior Specialist

We are seeking a Senior Specialist in New Business Planning to support regulatory requirements for our electrical distribution system, lead design and construction projects, and interact with customers on electrical design needs.
Responsibilities
Conduct long‑term grid import planning analyses and transmission interconnection assessments and projects. Manage large design projects from inception to construction completion, ensuring compliance of electrical designs with policies, procedures, rules, and rates.
Support the company’s electrical distribution system by developing and designing plans, identifying necessary resources, and providing cost estimates and options for the construction of distribution facilities.
Make decisions that directly impact project course, timing, scope, and budget.
Perform field inspections to gather data relevant to the planning and development review process and to verify that projects comply with approved plans.
Assess the capabilities of the regional distribution system and its compliance with planning criteria.
Conduct power‑flow studies, build power‑flow models, and prepare economic analyses to develop short‑ and long‑term distribution system plans.
Ensure distribution system performance meets reliability targets and analyze outages for cause, trends, and duration.
Coordinate activities with other internal personnel and/or organizations to ensure compliance and appropriate follow‑through of policies, procedures, rules, and completion dates on assigned projects.
Stay up to date on current industry practices, standards, and customer needs. Interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs and provide successful outcomes for customers and SCE on assigned projects.
Provide training and support, assessing and managing the workload when necessary.
Ensure the protection of all company assets—physical, financial, and cybersecurity—and properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, and other highly sensitive data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
Three or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Design, Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Line Construction, or Engineering discipline.
Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
Experience with CAD‑based design.
Experience determining scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for overhead and underground facilities.
Experience preparing distribution work orders or construction plans on projects.
Experience analyzing and/or designing engineered civil drawings.
Experience managing multiple and/or sensitive projects and functioning effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities, and making critical decisions with minimal supervision.
Experience serving as a project leader for the design and implementation of design projects, as well as planning, influencing, anticipating, and communicating conditions, trends, and corrective actions in operational areas.
Able to drive, traverse on uneven surfaces, occasionally lift up to 40 lbs., sit/stand for extended periods of time, and work in various weather conditions.
Additional Information
This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees must work and reside in California. Further details will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode may change based on business needs.
The primary work location for this position is the Pomona Innovation Village; however, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended time at alternate locations.
The position requires up to 25% traveling and field work throughout the SCE service territory.
This position offers a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or a 40‑hour/5‑day week.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
This position requires testing. Applicants who continue in the selection process will be invited to test via email. Reference Information Guides for the following tests: (EEI TECH (Test #5107)). Candidates who have previously passed these assessments may not need to retest.
