Description

AWS is seeking a Data Center Civil Engineer to join its design team in Herndon, VA.

As a Data Center Civil Engineer at AWS, you will lead civil engineering designs for Amazon Data Centers. You will be part of a design team comprising Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. You will provide technical design guidance and vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and develop an understanding of site design and program requirements.

This role sits within the Americas Design Engineering team responsible for the design and operation of critical Data Center facilities located throughout North and South America. The team is diverse and focused on delivering innovative products to customers, with emphasis on speed to market and reliability.

Key responsibilities

Manage external civil design consultants through the data center design and construction process.

Review designs for site layout, grading, power substations, storm water, and utilities.

Coordinate with internal and external architectural, structural, and MEP design engineers.

Develop preliminary site layout concepts using Civil 3D, incorporating grading, utilities, and circulation patterns while maintaining flexibility for design evolution.

Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.

Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.

Develop and maintain design standards, design prototypes, and template specifications related to site design for Data Centers and supporting infrastructure.

Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects, including DCs and special program facilities.

Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously and align with Technical Program Manager expectations regarding cost and schedule variables.

Lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.

Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications

Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region.

Professional Engineering license or plan for acquiring within 12 months of start date.

3+ years of commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial site-civil design experience with work in site development, grading, paving, storm water, and utility design.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.

Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
