
Driver License Examiner w/ CDL (Reading)

This is a rewarding opportunity to administer examinations to assess the overall skill and competency of commercial (CDL) and non‑commercial driver license applicants.
Responsibilities
As a Driver License Examiner, you will conduct standardized examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of both CDL and non‑CDL applicants, process test results and applications, and issue driver license and identification card products to eligible applicants. Special attention must be given towards closely examining paperwork and documentation to combat identity theft and fraud.
Specific duties include determining physical and driving qualifications of applicants and the mechanical conditions of vehicles for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving. You will administer telebinocular, colour perception, and other tests of vision, in addition to administering non‑CDL and CDL examinations to ensure examinees have a knowledge and understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs. Efficient and courteous customer service and communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with the public on a daily basis to respond to a variety of inquiries and assist customers at the Driver License Center by processing applications and paperwork.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment
Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday to Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch break.
Overtime and travel to other driver license centers may be required as necessary.
Telework: you will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: in some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
or
Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements
This position requires an active Pennsylvania non‑commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty‑one years of age at the time of application.
This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five‑year period immediately preceding employment.
All employees hired after February 28 2022 are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or by the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
Other Requirements

Legal Requirements
A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name‑Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
