Overview
Hudson Valley Credit Union is currently recruiting for the position of Consumer Loan Underwriter I. Primary Function: Make independent loan decisions by approving, denying and counter‑offering consumer loans in accordance with loan policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities
Make independent loan decisions by approving, denying and counter‑offering consumer loans in accordance with prudent industry best practices. May make decisions in the best interest of the Credit Union's desire to serve our members and risk tolerance. Communicate the decision to members, directly and indirectly.
Document loan exceptions thoroughly.
Ensure that documents required by Truth in Lending are issued in accordance with current regulations.
Responsible for data integrity in all consumer loan systems.
Responsible for entering thorough comments in loan systems to support follow‑up and document authentication practices.
Handle member interactions and internal customers over the phone, in writing or in person in a timely, professional manner.
Maintain satisfactory level of technical knowledge and professional skill to keep up with current developments and changes in regulations.
Adhere to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. Participate in all required and recommended training and development including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act training (BSA) and demonstrate attained knowledge. Participate on Credit Union teams, projects and strategic initiatives when the opportunity arises. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) certificate, or state authorized high school equivalent certificate required.
Minimum 1 year of Underwriting experience in consumer lending preferred.
