
Substance Abuse Counselor, Full-Time, Variable Shift

Job Summary
Assesses and provides treatment to individuals with emotional, mental, or substance abuse difficulties, including abuse of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs. Helps patients overcome addiction by educating them regarding the skills necessary to overcome addiction. Serves as the first line contact and support for patients in order to assure a supported therapeutic addiction recovery experience.
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
Master's Degree: Preferred
Experience in detoxification and 12-step based chemical dependency treatment programs: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications
Registered as Addiction Specialist Intern within 6 months of hire and completion within 5 years of registration: Preferred
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) licensure in state of practice: Preferred
Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse certification: Preferred
Essential Functions
Counsels patients in group or by individual sessions to help them cope with substance abuse. Observes and supports clients through program process using 12-step tools and other proven methods. Counsels family members to aid them in dealing with, supporting and understanding the patient.
Monitors, evaluates and records client progress towards treatment goals. Collaborates with nurses, physicians and counselors to coordinate plan treatment. Modifies treatment plans depending on the progress of client status.
Plans and conducts programs to combat social difficulties, prevent substance abuse, or improve health. Refers patients, clients, or families to community resources available for treatment or housing.
Supervises and directs staff regarding providing services to patients.
Documents patient progress, as required.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
