ILSI Global, the headquarters of the ILSI Federation, is based in Washington, D.C. It coordinates the network of ILSI Entities worldwide and oversees the implementation of ILSI\'s Mandatory Policies to ensure coherence and integrity across the Federation.

This position will support both ILSI Global and ILSI U.S. and Canada.
About the Role

ILSI Global/U.S. and Canada is seeking a Communications Manager to oversee communications activities across a diverse portfolio of scientific programs and initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is responsible for developing high-quality written and digital content, managing ILSI\'s brand and online presence, and translating complex scientific topics into clear, compelling messages for a range of audiences. This role plays a key part in supporting ILSI\'s visibility and ensuring its scientific work is effectively communicated to global stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with a background in or strong familiarity with science, ideally in food, nutrition, food safety, or public health. They are comfortable performing a variety of duties, including crafting press releases, developing and maintaining digital content, supporting internal communications across an international organization with 10 institutes, and coordinating across teams and external partners. Strong writing and editing skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, are essential.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Content Development & Scientific Communications

Translate scientific publications, reports, and research outputs into accessible messages for non-specialist audiences including decision‑makers, researchers, and media
Plan and support dissemination activities for ILSI\'s peer‑reviewed journals,

Nutrition Reviews

and

Global Perspectives on Nutrition , webinars, workshops, and other program outputs
Draft press releases, newsletters, event descriptions, stakeholder updates, and other external communications materials
Develop communications updates for the ILSI Global Board, Global Assembly, and U.S. and Canada Governance Committee
Review and edit content across the organization to ensure accuracy and consistency
Brand & Identity Management

Maintain and enforce consistent ILSI brand standards, messaging, and visual identity across all entities, platforms, and member institutions
Develop and manage visual assets including graphics for social media, email communications, presentations, and event materials
Manage and update templates and design resources for ILSI programs and initiatives
Digital & Web Communications

Manage and update organizational websites, ensuring content is current, accurate, and strategically aligned
Manage social media channels for the organization, individual projects, and peer‑reviewed journals, including content creation, scheduling, posting, and analytics reporting
External & Internal Partner Communications

Support strategic engagement with key institutional partners, including UN agencies, foundations, and diverse public and private stakeholders
Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries
Facilitate internal communications across the ILSI Federation, keeping member institutes and staff aligned and informed
Support the development and implementation of a coordinated federation‑wide communications strategy
Events & Coordination

Coordinate communications efforts for ILSI events and meetings, and external conferences
Draft and design event‑related materials, such as informational flyers, posters, and conference booth materials
Support communications after events, such as sharing event key takeaways and conference summaries
Oversee the communications budget
Manage relationships with external agencies, designers, and vendors
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public policy, nutrition, public health, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
At least 3 years of experience in communications and/or in a public health or nonprofit setting
Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate scientific content for diverse audiences
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
Collaborative team player, comfortable working across teams and with external partners
Self-starter who can take initiative, make decisions independently, and execute with minimal direction
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience with digital communications (websites, social media, or newsletters)
Interest in or familiarity with nutrition, food safety, food systems, or public health
Work Environment

Based in our Washington, D.C. office, this role reports directly to the ILSI Global Executive Director. While there may be flexibility for a remote work environment, candidates within commuting distance of the DC metro area are preferred for occasional in-person meetings and collaboration. This is a U.S.-based position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $75,000– $95,000
Placement within this range depends on relevant qualifications, experience, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, health, dental, and vision insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan, and additional benefits designed to support employee well-being and work‑life balance.
