School Behavioral Health Clinician

Job Summary
Provides comprehensive behavioral health services for children from Pre‑K through 12th grade, who are students within District of Columbia Public Schools and Public Charter Schools. Cases involve a wide range of complex psychosocial and environmental problems. Conducts comprehensive diagnostic assessments with students and families/guardians. Develops a comprehensive treatment plan in coordination with the student and family. Provides individual, group, and family counseling to students and their families, utilizing evidence‑based therapeutic techniques. Performs crisis intervention services and develops and implements school‑wide crisis interventions. Serves as a member of the mental health team within the school and provides comprehensive consultative services and technical assistance to teachers as it relates to interventions.

Qualifications
Professional knowledge of the principles and practices of behavioral health. At least one year of experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade level (DS‑11) and directly related to the work of the position.

Licensure, Certifications and Other Requirements
Must be currently licensed to practice in the District of Columbia as either a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Education
Candidates must have completed a full four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in an academic field relating to health science or allied science pertinent to the position.

Experience
Experience utilizing knowledge of child and adolescent trends, techniques and methods. Demonstrated ability performing therapeutic interventions and carrying out a wide variety of behavioral health services.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a school setting. Travel may be required for home visits, meetings, and crisis response.

Position is deemed “Protection‑Sensitive” pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations. Applicants or employees in this position are subject to the following checks and tests:

Random drug and alcohol test

Return‑to‑duty or follow‑up drug and alcohol test

Residency Preference
A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application may be awarded a 10‑point residency preference over non‑District applicants unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for seven consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7‑year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
