
LSBME Lab Assistant/Processor – Core Lab, FT EVENINGS

Your role as a Laboratory Assistant involves working under the direct supervision of medical practitioners or laboratory personnel in both inpatient and outpatient settings to collect, label, process, and deliver patient specimens for diagnostic testing. You support clinical staff in maintaining accurate, confidential, and timely laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
Assist medical technologists and other lab staff with procedural set‑up, specimen plating, slide staining, and related tasks.
Label, process, and distribute specimens according to department standards.
Set up laboratory testing and/or procedures for medical technologists to read.
Perform laboratory testing as directed.
Respond to specimen receipt via pneumatic tube system or specimen drop‑off, deliver to department sections, match specimens with orders in the LIS, and enter collection information.
Maintain the rejection log with appropriate communication documentation.
Provide clerical duties, retrieve laboratory results, and fax to the office/unit as appropriate.
Scan necessary documents into the hospital information system.
Check instruments and assigned benches for adequate reagent and supply levels, replenish when necessary, and notify the appropriate person or team of low inventory items.
Record receipt of supplies, verify deliveries, document receipt in the department’s supply logbook, and label incoming supplies with receipt date before stocking.
Monitor reagent expiration dates, and notify the appropriate person of any expired tubes or supplies, or any items found to be defective, contaminated, or otherwise unacceptable.
Assist with specimen collection, determine appropriate specimen collection requirements and techniques for the tests requested, and the amount of specimen required.
Work the evening shift (United States of America).
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED or 1 year of directly related experience.
American Heart Association BLS certification.
