
Intake Clinician - PRN

Responsibilities
VBPC currently has a PRN Assessment and Referral Clinician position available. The candidate must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing telephonic or face‑to‑face mental health crisis triage, assessment, intervention, and disposition at Assessment and Referral Centers or on‑site at general hospital emergency rooms, therapists’ or physicians’ offices. The candidate will answer the telephone crisis line, obtain all pertinent demographic, clinical, marketing, and third‑party information to determine the appropriateness of face‑to‑face telephonic assessment and clinical disposition of the caller; seek supervision when the caller requests information or data unfamiliar to the counselor. The candidate will provide clinically appropriate resolution to calls evaluated as information only, and provide clinically appropriate telephonic disposition to routine clients, referring to outpatient care as appropriate. The candidate will schedule face‑to‑face clinical assessments within twenty‑four hours if the call is evaluated as urgent or emergent, and refer calls not appropriate for care within the UHS systems matrix to other clinically appropriate providers or community resources.
Qualifications
Requirements: a master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a degree and licensure as a registered nurse with one or more years of direct or related mental‑health counseling experience; preference for mental‑health crisis counseling experience. Must possess knowledge of current psychiatric diagnoses and treatment terminology; be able to complete biopsychosocial patient assessments, including formal mental status evaluation and patient medical history; be familiar with community resources and third‑party payers, including managed care companies; and possess basic typing and computer literacy.
