What We’re Looking For:
If you are passionate about deploying disruptive technology, then you will be excited about the Senior Network Engineer opening with Iridium. As Senior Network Engineer, you will play a key role in development, integration, troubleshooting, and testing of the Iridium’s Government customer network infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the Iridium ground network infrastructure and equipment to deliver a fault-tolerant, reliable, scalable, and automated infrastructure. In this role, you will determine methods and procedures and independently coordinate activities of other personnel, lead the implementation of ideas and solutions that improve our government customer’s network availability, performance, security, and reliability.

What You’ll Do:

Independently perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking devices including, but not limited to, Cisco devices such as ISR/ASR Routers, Catalyst and Nexus switches, firewalls (to include Fortinet and Palo Alto firewalls), and AWS Cloud services.

Develop and maintain security policies, configure and update firewall rules, regularly audit network configurations and access controls, and apply industry-standard security best practices to protect network infrastructure from vulnerabilities. Use your knowledge of Iridium business and technologies, and collaborate with internal and external teams, to support operations and engineering tasks and projects and to provide improvement recommendations to the management team

Support real-time troubleshooting and problem resolution support and provide 24x7 assistance as needed. Analyze network traffic, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions

Create and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, security policies, and procedures. Adhere to Configuration Management rules required to meet compliance.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network engineers and support cross-functional efforts and share your expertise with colleagues to identify and autonomously implement ideas and solutions that create added value for the team and the program. Strive to improve the daily maintenance and operations of the Iridium’s government and commercial networks across multiple sites.

Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the network industries, technologies, and best practices, and work with vendors and service providers to evaluate, procure, and manage networking hardware and software solutions

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

8+ years of experience managing and maintaining mid-to-large scale LAN/WAN networks devices that include Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewall and other vendors networking technologies.

Strong understanding and hands-on experience configuring and maintaining routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP

Knowledge and hands-on experience configuring and maintaining networking protocols and features such as VLANs, STP, VDC, VFR, VPC, and VSS QoS, VPNs,

Knowledge and hands-on experience configuring and maintaining security features such as firewall polices, network segmentation, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and VPN configurations

Knowledge of network security frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISO 27001), hardening network infrastructure, experience with or knowledge of USG IAVA and STIG processes and procedures, and knowledge of security compliance standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR) as they relate to network security

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic

Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team

Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions

Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others

Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met

Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance and potential to obtain a Top-Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) (or higher) and Fortinet Network Security Certified Professional are preferred. Other certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP) are a plus.

Experience configuring and managing AWS cloud features, solutions, and services such as VPC, Transit Gateway, and AWS third party commercial network tools and products such as virtual routers and firewalls.

Experience with configuration management, application deployment, provisioning, and orchestration tools such as Ansible

Experience working in a Linux environment and with VMware or other hypervisor virtualized environments.

Well versed in use of MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio

An active/current SECRET (or TOP-SECRET) security clearance

We’ll also need you to:

Be available to support 24x7 on-call on an as-needed basis.

Be able to travel occasionally, typically 3 to 4 times per year.

Be able to lift 25 lbs. and climb a ladder

Must be a US Citizen

Must be able to work a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of 3 days in-office

Work Environment:
This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.

Under Iridium’s Hybrid Work Policy, employees are expected to work at least three days per week (approximately 60%) in an Iridium office to support collaboration, relationship-building, and professional growth.
