Occupational Therapist – PRN
at Murfreesboro Rehabilitation Hospital is hiring a PRN Occupational Therapist to be part of a fast-paced and dedicated, innovative team. The hospital specializes in neuro and ortho care, and patients are referred from outside hospitals to the in-patient setting. We offer occupational, physical, speech, and respiratory therapy, along with wound care, IV therapy, and rehabilitation nursing. Our goal is to improve quality of life by treating patients recovering from injury, illness, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, stroke, or disability through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.
Murfreesboro Rehabilitation Hospital is located within TrustPoint Hospital and offers the only acute, hospital-based inpatient physical rehabilitation in Rutherford County.
Purpose
Support and empower patients recovering from injury, illness, or disability by using meaningful everyday activities to help them regain confidence, independence, and a fuller quality of life.
Essential Functions
Help patients develop, recover and improve the skills needed for daily living and working.
Review patient medical history, ask questions and observe patients completing tasks to evaluate condition and needs.
Develop a treatment plan for patients, identify specific goals and types of activities to help the patient achieve set goals.
Assist people with various disabilities on tasks, demonstrate exercises, evaluate a patient’s home or workplace, and identify potential improvements based on health needs.
Educate a patient’s family and employer about how to accommodate and care for the patient. Recommend equipment such as wheelchairs and eating aids and instruct patients on how to use that equipment.
Assess and record patient activities and progress for patient evaluations, billing, and reporting to physicians and other healthcare providers.
May work with children in educational settings to evaluate abilities, modify classroom equipment, and help children participate in school activities.
May work with patients who have developmental disabilities, mental illness, or emotional problems.
May teach patients skills such as time management, budgeting, using public transportation, and doing household chores to help them engage in daily life activities.
May work with individuals who have issues with drug use, alcoholism, depression, or other disorders.
Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Prioritize patient safety.
Other Functions
Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Therapy required.
One or more years’ experience working with the facility’s population required.
Licenses/Designations/Certifications
Current active professional license or eligible for endorsement by the state in which the facility provides services.
CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by the facility).
First aid may be required based on state or facility.
