Pharmacy Technician – Home Infusion – Full Time Days – Southfield

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for, but not limited to, preparing pharmacy orders including filling and sterile compounding pursuant to a valid physician prescription. Assists pharmacist with communication, clinical monitoring, documentation, and oversight of patient care coordination. Assist in the stocking and storage of Inventory as well as assisting in the maintenance of environmental controls and collection of compliance data. May require a weekend/holiday on-call component based on operating needs of Henry Ford Home Infusion. Routinely interacts and communicates with the public.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares parenteral products under the direction of a registered pharmacist, utilizing aseptic technique adhering to USP 797 guidelines in accordance with policy.

Compounds pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions utilizing low, medium, and high-risk compounding techniques as applicable.

Obtains and reviews pharmacy labels to determine required products and delivery time.

Performs medication inventory management and restocking as directed.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date medication records.

Initials all work clearly according to departmental procedures.

Provides excellent customer service to patients and healthcare professionals by initiating and responding to communications regarding home infusion services.

Prepares labels, compounding records, and delivery tickets in addition to other pertinent home infusion paperwork.

Assists warehouse coordinators and delivery technicians with orders and tracking of all infusion related equipment.

Follows all applicable safety and quality assurance protocols.

Manages and maintains drug inventory and clinical supplies as requested. Ensures that the drugs are properly stored and meet regulatory compliance guidelines.

Prepares, dispenses, and delivers medication in line with patient care plans.

Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.

Complies with all accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements for home infusion pharmacy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Requires high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Minimum of six (6) months of hospital or home infusion pharmacy experience with emphasis on compounding/aseptic technique required, and good working knowledge of compounding sterile products according to USP 797 standards.

Knowledge of IV access devices and required ancillary supplies preferred.

Advanced computer knowledge preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED

State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license required.
